AN URBAN RETREAT

Economical and inventive in its use of space, this secondary house is located in a dense downtown neighborhood. Garage and laundry walls retain the hill into which the house is nestled, serving as the foundation for a light-filled loft, above. Volumes set beneath a tall gabled ceiling, the bathroom and kitchen create a threshold between the front living room and rear bedroom.  Light travels unimpeded throughout the clerestory space.  Alisha collaborated with Gehrung Graham Architects on this project. The team employed Passive House techniques and energy performance strategies to ensure a healthy environment that leans minimally on fossil fuel-reliant systems.
