Michael is an Architect, Builder and Woodworker. He is particularly interested in consummating architectural design with excellent craft. To realize design with the best means, he is partner in both Savage Clark Architects and STOA Design + Construction. Mike holds multiple degrees in English and Architecture from the University of Virginia. In his graduate Architecture thesis, he explored the expression of the literary concepts of James Joyce’s Ulysses in architectural form. Michael also enjoys playful twists on the conventions of making, once initiated by artists such as Marcel DuChamp.  For Mike, in architecture, playful exploration is always stewarded by careful creation.
